Aki Hoshide
This morning in the Main Hall the children met a real astronaut, Akihiko Hoshide.
Aki is a UWCSEA alumnus 1987. He is a JAX astronaut who has made two trips to the International Space Station (ISS) and three space walks. The children viewed a video from his time at the ISS and heard about some of his personal experiences. Aki was at ease in front of the audience and answered some questions asked by the Junior school students and lucky Jake Brogden in 1TPu.

It was an amazing opportunity for the children to listen to Aki and realise that UWCSEA students go out into the world and do amazing things. Reach for the stars!
When we returned to the classroom the children collaboratively wrote an acrostic poem about Aki. Mrs Susan Edwards, Head of Global Concerns, has passed the poem to Aki. How exciting!

Pete's Smashing Pots
Back in October the children filled up Pete's Smashing Pot with coins from home, an initiative from Peter Thomas, Class of 2013. The pot was scheduled to be smashed on UWC Day but because of the haze conditions on the day, it was postponed.
We were happy to head off yesterday to the Tent Plaza and smash our pot.
Yana was the lucky student to smash the pot as her lucky number was the closest to the magic number. She managed to smash the pot on her first try and the class watched as the money was collected by older students. Although we watched coins from other classes being counted in the machine we will find out how much we raised for our chosen Global Concern ACRES next week.
We have now raised money for ACRES through our Bakers for ACRES and Pete's Smashing Pots.
Well done 1VFo .
